Please note we would expect that your resident address is local to the area or that you would have good reason  for hiring out of your local area. We are required by our insurance company to question these reasons 


How do I book a vehicle?
You can make a reservation by calling on 01494 794 444 for Chesham and speak to one of our staff, we will ask for a few details about the driver and take payment for the hire, or book online from our website

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes we ask for a deposit of £250.00, when you collect the vehicle this is pre authorised and not taken just held until the vehicle is returned

How old do I need to hire a vehicle?
In general, for cars and vans, you must be aged 21 or over to hire in the UK and have held a full clean driving licence for at least three years. For certain heavier commercial vehicles, different requirements may apply. Please check our terms and conditions for further details
Please note aged 21-22 there is an additional cost of £10.00 a day aged 23-24 an additional cost of £5.00 a day

How can I get a quote for a vehicle?
You can get a quick quote by visiting the bookings page. Fill in the form and then click “Send My Booking Reservation Now!”. Alternatively, you can call us on 01494 794 444

What information will I need to provide to get a quote online?
You have to provide us with the dates of travel and the type of vehicle you wish to hire, your age and how long you have held a full UK driving licence

Are there restrictions on what vehicles I can drive on a standard licence?
Yes, there are. On a standard licence for which the driving test pass date is after 01/01/1997, you cannot drive more than an 8 seater and over 35 CWT vehicle, unless you have passed a test covering these vehicles, currently all our vehicles can be driven with a standard licence

My Driving Licence has expired can I still hire a vehicle from you?
No it is between 3-6 points and a £1000 fine for driving on an expired licence you do need to renew it. Once you have renewed it you do not need to wait for a new licence to come through the post as long as the online part of your licence is updated

My Driving Licence has an old address on it can I still hire a vehicle from you?
We require proofs of the address that match your licence our advice would be to change the address on your licence you can do this quickly and easily online https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence as long as you have  a current passport and a photocard licence
once the online address has been updated we can accept this and do not need to wait for your new licence to arrive

Can I leave the vehicle at my destination?
No, you have to return the vehicle to our site in Chesham

What documents do I need to hire?

Do you allow vehicles to go abroad?
Yes, we do. For European hire, you must notify us of your journey plans well in advance so we may arrange suitable cover for you. Special rates and cover will apply

Do you have an out of hours drop off facility?
Yes, we do. This is included as standard, when we show you around the vehicle we will also show you the out of hours process.

Can customers leave their own vehicles at our site during vehicle hire period?
Yes, they can. Vehicles and their contents are left entirely at the owner risk.

Can I hire on my own insurance?
No, all vehicles must be covered under our own policy.

Do you offer long-term hire arrangements?
Yes, we do up to 3 months at a time. Please contact us for more about our long-term hire service.

May I open an account with J&R Car and Van Hire?
Yes, you will need to complete a credit application form. Once approved, you will be able to hire vehicles on your own credit account.
Is Insurance included? Yes Fully comprehensive cover is included  

What is the Excess on your Insurance Policy?
The Excess ranges from between £1000 to £2500 Dependent on the type of vehicle there is an option to reduce this excess in store 


I have a Complaint who can i complain to ?
In the first instance please complain directly to us at info@jandrsolutions.co.uk and allow 2 weeks for us to respond, If you are not satisfied with our response we are members of the BVRLA  and you can complain direct to them they offer a conciliation service

Damage Policy


When a vehicle is returned to us we will do a two part check usually a quick visual check at the point of return and then a more thorough check as the vehicle is cleaned.

Where damage is identified we will photograph the damage and email the customer to let them know.

We will then obtain an estimate to return the vehicle to its undamaged state

Please note the process of obtaining a quote is not always quick we often have to book appointments and juggle this around already existing bookings and then wait for the quotes to be sent through this may take up to 4 weeks.

If we lease the vehicle we will have to take it to a main dealer for repairs

If we own the vehicle we will generally obtain only one quote, the process of obtaining a quote removes a van from being hired that day and takes time for my staff.

The repairer we use we believe offers great value and in our experience is rarely if ever beaten by other local repairers

You are welcome to obtain your own quote but you will need to hire the vehicle and take it to get the relevant quote

We will then draw down the deposit for the vehicle and send the customer an invoice for the damage

The invoice may include, but not limited to, Repair to the damaged area, respraying of the damaged area, Replacement signage and time spent off road.

Vehicles are damaged often and accumulate damage quickly where we can we will not get a vehicle repaired at once but allow damage to accumulate and repair several items at one time reducing the need for us to include an off hire charge.

Where we cannot ignore the damage we will book it for repair as soon as it can be fitted in and charge for off hire
